A frelichen Purim

"guys really think about it. this is adar. very close to Purim. and now Hashem sends us a sign through this pigua. what happened in the Purim story? Hashem was "hidden" from us. when did He save us? when we brought Him back into our lives by doing Teshuva and realizing He was the only One Who could save us. in the comfort of the U.S., we often take our Yiddishkeit for granted. we often dont realize that Hashem is Mashgiach on us every single second of the day. we need to wake up and bring Hashem back into our lives. Hashem is sending us a message, guys. but it won't work if we dont read it. Have a freilichen Purim! love, Hila" i wrote that email last purim, when the Mercaz Harav shootings had just happened. and look how much happened in the world since then: mumbai, the yeshiva bachurim in japan, obama... things can get really scary sometimes. i always think about this: a lot of times when Tzarot come to us, they come when we least expect them. they come when we finally feel secure. they come when we are not so inspired and feel like everything is okay. they come when we let down our guard. we all know this. so why do we let down our guard??? in the times of the Purim story, the whole thing started because the Jews let their guard down. they lived in Shushan, they felt like they were safe, like they were liked by the non-Jews. they felt like it would not only be okay if they went to the king's party, but that it would actually be disrespectful not to go. they disregarded their Ruchniut, disregarded the things that are truly important in life, and made a mistake that almost cost them their lives. let's learn from the Purim story. let's not make the same mistakes that our ancestors made. let's make choices that will make our great-great-great-grandchildren, years and years from now, look at us and be proud. let's make choices that our descendants can learn from. let's pave a path that our children will follow. let's create Kedusha instead of erasing it. let's create change. one step at a time. little by little, each and every one of us can have an effect on others. remember that, and change.
